Knowing that a hunting retriever can make or break a day of hunting, The Sandusky Bay HRC Inc., was formed. This group of people starting the Sandusky Bay HRC believed that a well-trained gun dog is not only one of the best conservation tools a hunter can have, but also a true joy in itself to have around as a family companion. This group of people found that the Hunting Retriever Club, whose motto is “ Conceived by hunters for hunters”, was the organization that could give them and their dogs what they were looking for. Together with the National Hunting Retriever Club, Inc. the Sandusky Bay HRC, then and now offers hunters the privilege of training and working their dogs year round and the opportunity to test their retrievers in true-to-life hunting situations; while preserving the hunting retriever breeds through proper training and breeding.
OUR Hunting Closesting Season Never!
We can help you train your retriever
As a member, you will have access to birds and training equipment at organized training sessions. You will also have the opportunity to gain knowledge, or share a few pointers and training ideas with many different people that are in so many ways just like you. Have you been trying to throw marks, handle the gun and teach your dog not to break after birds? Frustrated? With so many people (beginners to veterans) in the club, there are enough hands to throw all of those marks so you can concentrate on your dog. Don’t know where to begin with your new pup? We’re sure to have an idea that will work for you and your dog.
Licensed Hunt tests
Our club offers you the opportunity to test and evaluate your hunting retriever as a useful hunting companion. Unlike typical “field trials” dogs do not run against each other. They run against a set of standards in four different categories: Started, Seasoned, Finished, and Upland. After meeting the standards and reaching different levels of the HRC program, the average hunter can earn titles for their dogs--- the highest being Grand Hunting Retriever Champion. Our club holds 1 U.K.C./H.R.C. hunts a year.
Fun for the whole family
The whole family is invited to participate.
What could be more gratifying than spending a Sunday afternoon helping your son with his new anxious duck dog, or working with your daughter and her new pup on their first set of single marks.
Our objective is to have fun with our dogs, promote hunting and proper conservation through trained dogs and good breeding programs and to learn together. If we can help you make it a family affair (and perhaps educate a new generation) great!
You and your dog can become a better, more efficient hunting team
Our club holds 1 U.K.C./H.R.C. Licensed hunts a year, monthly training sessions and give awards for your achievements as well as many other events in conjunction with other Hunting Retriever Clubs.
Whether you are an experienced hunter with a veteran retriever, a beginner with a young dog and no idea of where to even start, or someone with a simple love of the retriever breed, The Sandusky Bay HRC is here for you! We are a group of people who want to preserve and enjoy our hunting retrievers, and a group of people who appreciate the privilege of being able to enjoy our sport with our retrievers.
